What is Highlighter and Do I Need it?

Let's talk about highlighter...and no, not the bright yellow markers you've used in school. Highlighter is a type of makeup that is used to reflect light to brighten up dull complexion, give your skin a healthy glow and add dimension to your look, all of which enhances your natural features. It comes in many forms (liquid, cream and powder), different shades and a wide variety of how much or little it shimmers.

How do I know if I need to use a highlighter?

Using a highlighter is really up to your preference. Personally, it is not something I use in my every day routine, but it's something I often grab for when I am going for a fuller makeup look. As I mentioned above, it is a tool used to enhance your features by "highlighting" the points on your face where light would naturally hit it. Think of highlighter as a finishing touch. The light reflection creates a beautiful shimmer and sun-kissed look.

Do I need a highlighter if I’m already wearing blush?

Highlighter and blush compliment each other, but are not the same. Blush is used to give your cheeks color, while highlighter is used for light reflection to enhance your features. A balanced look really needs both! Our Tints, when used for blush, do have a shimmer so they give the feel of a blush and highlighter, so adding a brighter highlighter will really amplify your features.

Where do I apply highlighter?

You want to use highlighter in spots that would naturally catch light like on your cheekbones, down the bridge of your nose, under your eyebrows, the inner corners of eyes and above the cupid's bow. Do you need to apply it in all of these areas? Of course not! Experiment with applying it in different places and see what works best for your face shape. I think the most common place to put highlighter is high on your cheekbones, above your blush. I typically will also put highlighter under my eyebrows, above my cupid's bow and on the tip of my nose.

What do I use as a highlighter from URGO Beauty?

Over the years, we know many of our customers have experimented with our Tints to use them as a sort of highlighter since they do have a pearl shimmer, but I knew we needed to make a super shimmery Tint to be the perfect highlighter. So, while I was soaking up the sun for a month in Florida, I finally created a Tint that I loved and knew could be a hit as a highlighter. I am thrilled to share our Venice Tint, which brings the warm, golden sand glow right from Florida to you.

How do I apply highlighter?

Like all of our Tints, you can apply the Venice Tint in multiple ways. My favorite way is to apply some to the back of my hand, then use a brush to apply it and blend it out. Your hands are also fabulous tools to use to apply and blend. For the most shimmer, I would apply the Tint directly to your skin and blend it softly with your fingers.

Any other questions? Write them in the comments and I'd be happy to answer them! I hope you love our Venice Tint!
