Let's talk about custom...

I get a lot of questions about our custom products, and I mean a LOT! The most common question I get is, “Why would you spend the time doing that? Won’t it limit the growth of your business?” But to me, it’s not about that. 

When I started URGO Beauty, I made our Two-Step Foundation custom to me. I was able to match my skin tone exactly, and formulate a product based on what my skin needed. It completely changed makeup for me, and this is why I offer custom Foundation, BB Cream, and CC Cream.

Custom products are so important to me because I want to make sure everyone (and I really mean EVERYONE) can find a product that is right for them. So whether we make a custom color, or modify a formula to make it just right for you (or even both), it’s worth the time to me. I want you to feel the same way I did. I want you to love the products you use, and achieve an effortless look because it matches your skin tone perfectly.

So how does it work? I’m answering the most common questions below, but if you have more questions, don’t hesitate to ask in the comments! Chances are someone else has the same question.

What products can you make custom? Currently we offer custom BB Cream, CC Cream, and Foundation. These are the staples of your makeup routine, and what covers your whole face, so it’s really important that it matches your skin tone, and has ingredients in it that work for your skin.

What’s the difference between made-to-order and custom? Virtually all of our products are made-to-order, which means that we stock components of makeup, not fully made products. So, when you order, we mix together the ingredients to make a product based on our set formulations and stock colors. Custom is a customized version of our stock products. This means we can modify the color and the formula to ensure that it is right for you.

What’s the difference between the options of “first time” and “already perfected” custom? First time custom is for the first time you order a custom product from us. You will see that the product will be a few dollars more to account for your custom samples. Once we have gone through the “first time” process, you can continue to order your product under custom, but you’ll select “already perfected” to let us know that we will use the formula we already have saved for you in our system.

How do you match my shade? What if I don’t live near you? We do it all virtually! When you order a “first-time” custom product, we ask for a bit of information from you, as well as pictures of your face without any makeup on, and in good, natural lighting. From there, we will create 3 custom samples for you. You will receive enough of each sample to wear them several times, and see what works and what doesn’t. After using the samples, if we need to make adjustments we can do so; we will send you more samples if we didn’t get it right on the first try. When you find the color that works best for you, we ask that you reply to your order confirmation to let us know, and we can discuss if the formula needs any adjustments (such as more coverage, more hydrating ingredients, etc). Then, we will put the order for your full-size product in our system (at no additional cost to you) so you will receive tracking information, we will mix it up, and send you your full-size product! At that point, your custom formula will be saved in our system. So, next time you can order the custom product and select “already perfected” so you can get your perfect formula every time!

How do I know if I want add-ons? We offer the most add-ons for our BB Cream. It is our lightest coverage product, so if you think you will want more coverage I suggest adding that on from the start. Adding SPF to our BB or CC Cream is completely up to you, and depends on whether or not you use other products for sun protection. If you don’t use other products with SPF, I highly recommend adding SPF. Our sunscreen is lightweight, made for sensitive skin, and won’t sting your eyes. For our Two-Step Foundation, when you get it the first time you will get both steps. From there on we allow you to order either step separately, or both together. When placing your order, under “already perfected” you can select either step, or both.

What if the samples aren’t just right? We guarantee we will get it right at no extra charge to you. While we are pretty confident that we can get it right on the first try, if we can’t, we will send you more samples until we get it perfect.

How long does the process take? It really depends on how long you want to work with the samples. Custom samples will ship out within a week from the order being placed. Once they arrive to you, you can use as much, or as little, as you want when trying on the samples. When you reply to us with your selection, your full-size product will ship out within a week.

What if my color changes? What do you suggest? My suggestion is always to message us and let us know! Depending on the change, we can most likely make updates to your formula without needing to go through the whole process again. We have lots of customers who have a summer and winter color on file.
